And it is quite good, conversations and quests go in so many directions. The fact that it runs at all, save being quite good, is a miracle. The developers only had 18 months to do most of the work on this game. It's flawed and buggy, but the writing is commendable work. Dialogue trees are filled with skill checks.

The game accounts for different builds in most scenarios. As for what the game does right, It's an honest to god RPG. Harder difficulties boil down to bullet sponge warfare while easier difficulties are too easy with two companions. The gunplay is lackluster, and the game is buggy. Weapon condition accomplishes what scarce ammo does, only worse. The assets and large majority of mechanics are inherited from Fallout 3, and with them comes the same problems. The narrative didn't react appropriately if we spent the next eight years farming tomatoes. In Fallout 4, the urgency of the main quest was finding those responsible for murdering our spouse and kidnapping our son. As far as open world games go this is one of the few that makes the main quest not awkwardly pause while we explore side content. The factor that shifts everything is us supporting various factions. And we the player are standing next to a freshly dug grave eye to eye with a suave man in a checkered suit, gun drawn and apologizing about our coming demise.Īfter we awake, if we spend the next eternity exploring every nook and cranny of the wasteland, the invasion for the Dam still won't have happened. At the center of the Mojave, the Strip is bustling with gang infighting and an absent overseer, the elusive Mr. The authoritarian Caesar bides his time in the east, planning a second attempt to assault the Hoover Dam and take control back from the New California Republic. All the factions feel real, and our interaction with them makes sense. The game just has this cohesion that makes everything work so well. Quests and NPCs are interesting, dialogue trees branch out it unique ways depending on your character. This is due in large part to the quality of writing. New Vegas stands a head taller than the other fallout games. Everyone should experience this game at one point.

After countless hours, and finding new locations and quests on every playthrough, this game will never get old and will always be up there for me. Pretty much anything is possible, wearing specific uniforms will disguise you to the naked eye of certain factions, which can be kind of annoying sometimes when you forget what you are wearing, but still a really cool feature that hasn't been implemented in much else. The way that most quests also branch off based on dialogue, being able to stop things from happening, or even instigating something too happen.

The crazy amount of NPC's and quests to interact with that are all so memorable, from simple quests that lead to some nice loot, or some quirky quest that leads to some sort of shenanigans. Everything about this game is just so good, the number of different builds you can run, which coincides with the sheer number of items to pickup and be discovered. One of the greatest games of all time for sure.
